K. Finished Peeping Tom. I know you all love it so that's all I'm saying.
Then moved on to Walkabout. LOVED IT LOVED IT LOVED IT. What a film! Beautiful to look at and ever so sad, but an absolute must for anyone who hasn't seen it. |

Peeping Tom is a disturbing film.
Walkabout is an AMAZING film. But also disturbing, the sexual imagery especially when involving a teenage girl is (sometimes) hard to watch (maybe because I have a teenage daughter), but its done with such beauty it adds to the power. David Gulpilil is also portaid with a certain sexuality that hasnt been surpassed for an Aboriginal before or after. the shots of trees that look like vaginas are quite superb. OPf course what else can we expect from someone who made MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH and DONT LOOK NOW? Ari |

Curious Case of Benjamin Button, loved it, interesting story, some great touches of Historical events whimsical, with some, good solid acting, that just flowed,
was mildly surprised to see it was based on a short by a much loved author?
Up in 3-D, loved it! wasnt expecting to walk out with tears in my eyes though! Did think the 3-D was a little lacking (but then I was a little pissed about the 2 $ extra per ticket) but when it did happen Wow! This weekend will be viewing Eric's Spendotoochie |

Nic Roeg is without a doubt one of the most under-rated of directors, perhaps because he takes no easy roads
in his films and while some may complain they are intellect-driven rather than emotion-driven, it may well be one of the reasons that so many of them repay repeated viewings over the years and they almost appear as different films, thanks to the way the viewer has evolved themselves - intellectually and emotionally - over that time. WALKABOUT is a fabulous film at every level. |

Performance also deserves a mention, though whether that was more Roeg, or more Cammell, well, I dunno

Never more so than with his film The Man Who Fell to Earth: watched it as a youngster I felt separate and devoid of any comprehension of what was being told, watched it a couple of months ago and it feels like a masterpiece of art-house sci-fi technicolor noir. Watched the documentary "Murnau, Borzage & Fox," some fascinating stuff about F.W., Frank and William, focusing mainly on the period around
changeover to sound and the making of "Sunrise" and "7th Heaven." Didn't know a whole lot about Borzage up 'til now, gonna have to
give him some attention though. Well worth seeing particularly if you like old, specialist crap.

I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and
was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any
such slander at any time in the future.

Rich Probably depended on who was able to stand up better on the day. Looking at their subsequent careers, I suspect they were aiming for an Archers style collaboration. I saw some fascinating stuff on FLASH GORDON when it was going to be directed by Nic Roeg with a screenplay by Roeg and Paul Mayersberg. Probably confused the hell out of Dino at the time. You can file FLASH GORDON along with JUDGE DREDD as probably two of the two greatest cock-ups in SF film history - where the source material had everything and what emerged was doo-doo. |

Maybe I can find a youtube clip.) All the cast were quite good, I thought. I don't recall ever seeing Zach before, but he was fantastically funny.

More Aussie goodness for me this weekend.
Started with The Square, great idea and well cast, but kinda sorta seen it all before...nothing really new there. Then moved to The Black Balloon...what a wonderful warming look at a family and how they each cope with an autistic child. As usual Toni Collete was great. Then watched the Hustler (well at least the start...I need to put locks on doors so people stop bugging me in the middle of movies). MAN is that man good looking...FARK, and absolute stunner. Oh and the movie was pretty great too, so I look forward to be able to watch the end. Had family over on the weekend, so we watched the fourth Indy movie again. Not as craptastic as I remembered it from the first viewing...still bad, but somehow not AS bad as I recall. |
