The ROBOT series is my favourite from Sir Asimov.

magnum55 wrote: yep I really enjoyed The Stars My Destination, just about to do a quickie by reading the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" to coincide with my viewing of Total Recall last night which is also getting remade. As much as I like Verhoeven's film as a very different approach to PKD, I still think there's much better film to be made in a way more akin to his style. Simon

I have been reading (for many many moons now) The Complete Western Stories by Elmore Leonard.
Really really good, I didn't think I would enjoy them anywhere near as much as I do (not being a huge fan of the Western). About two thirds of the way through, but just can't seem to make it to the end. I think because they are short stories I know I can leave it for a while and then come back not having to rack my brain remembering what happened. |

Just finished CAST OF KILLERS, the book based on King Vidor's 1960s investigation into the murder of William Desmond Taylor.

Yes, Rich. It's intriguing and a fascinating portrait of Hollywood at the time of WDT murder, and the level of police corruption at the highest levels.
Vidor intended a film based his 1960s research, when many of the key people involved were still alive. The film never got made, of course. A shame, as done right it could be something between WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? DAY OF THE LOCUST and LA CONFIDENTIAL. While not in the league of the superb THE DAY THE LAUGHTER STOPPED, an extremely detailed history of the hatchet job Hollywood, the press and the SF police department did on Fatty Arbuckle, it's a fast read in semi-novel format. Dying Inside - Robert Silverberg.
More cerebal society, flows along nicely after reading A Scanner Darkly. Simon

Dying Inside - Robert Silverberg. Ahhh I forgot about that book, will be my next re-read, he is a very interesting writer and this is a good read. Funny (or not) how you can relate to certain books, when they are so,,,,,,,, hmmmmmmm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, dunno. Ari |

At least once during the last 4 years I have recommended Silverberg's UP THE LINE as a "must read before you die" SF time travel classic.
