The Tim Burton 3-D flick doesn't come out till spring 2010, but we now have our first look at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen from the upcoming "Alice in Wonderland." The lead role of Alice will be played by 19-year-old unknown Mia Wasikowska from Australia.Depp looks pretty amazing in this makeup! Jeff

Anne Hathaway - the Andie McDowell of her generation.
That is not a compliment. I'm really not a fan of these images. It doesn't bode well for an all flash, no substance director like Burton.
I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and
was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any

im not sure how far along this film is.. but i wonder if Depp's makeup mught not be modified somewhat. i dont know how old the production shots
are--meaning, were these earlier makeups.

That is not a compliment. That's a perfect description of her. Perhaps Tim Burton will find hidden depths to her. I haven't disliked her in things I have seen her in and she has the weird kind of beauty that made/makes Julia Roberts special (that should start a few arguments) and perhaps like Roberts it will take time for her to find the right kind of roles beyond the popcorn favourites she usually plays in. As for the ALICE IN WONDERLAND pics, it seems a natural progression from CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY more than SLEEPY HOLLOW/SWEENEY TODD. Burton is one of the few directors whose work I actually look forward to. The news he is doing a musical remake of EYES WIDE SHUT is terrific. |

Hey, I reckon Tim Burton puts a lot of heart into his films but gets let down by working the Hollywood thing. No one does mainstream freak love quite like it.
Ed Wood and Edward Scissorhands especially, but it's always there. Admittedly I haven't been dropped by anything in 15 years, but my nephew loves
everything since so he's fine by me. It's not his fault I got old...

Burton makes weird movies.. That is his signature
everyone doesn't like weird and everyone can't wrap their heads around it I suspect that years down the road he will be viewed like an Orson Welles whose work varied in strength, but of whom many films that were dogs at release have been renamed classics. Magnificent Ambersons and Touch of Evil being the 2 most obvious examples. Myself, I think he is a fine film maker and I can't imagine a film with Depp being a dog - he is without a doubt one of the best actors of our generations and his portrayal of the mad hatter will probably be a fantastic & hilarious romp |

I like it -- not sure about the CGI backgrounds and sets, which still look like sets, rather than "real" places. Still, I want to believe.
Interestingly, just yesterday night a friend showed me his first edition Alice in Wonderland book -- what a remarkable book, and the illustrations are truly amazing.
