My wife and son recently saw it in 3-D. When the three of us had the chance to go together, it was at different theater and wasn't in 3-D. Still a
knockout, though!

Moon.
Very interesting and creative movie about a solitary man out in a lunar outpost. (Felt like my autobiography, but let's set that aside, for now.) Sam Rockwell does a great job. Great visuals -- not a CG shot in sight and no fast action cuts. Imagine that in 2009: remarkable how nice it was to see a movie that created a mood and had a great visual. Reminded me a bit of Alien in the visual design and tone (pre-monster stuff, that is). Really good music too. Apparently David Bowie's son directed it. High recommend. Shame it is not getting more attention. And cool posters too.

Nice! I really dig that first poster from 'Moon'!
I watched hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) for the second time. It was long unavailable here, so it's actually only a couple of years ago I managed to watch the whole thing. That time its raw energy totally blew me away and it instantly became one of my favourite horror films. This time around the impact wasn't as big, since I knew what was going to happen, but the final 20 minutes still got my heart pounding. I also realized how full of dark humor it is. Still 5/5 in my book. After that, I watched Hooper's own sequel The Texas Chainsaws Massacre 2. He really went in a completely different direction with this one. More of a grotesque than a horror film in my opinion. Somewhat entertaining, but probably not a film I am going to watch many times. 3/5 |

We just finished "Finding Neverland" starring one J.C. Depp. Perhaps the next one wll be the 1924 "Peter Pan."

I'm really liking those MOON posters too!
Probably one of the few people left on the planet who hadn't seen Brokeback Mountain, which I finally did. Good decision on my part to exclude the hubby from the movie watching experience. I really liked this one. I'm not usually a fan of "love stories", but this one I really liked. I'm not sure Ledgers performance was Oscar worthy, but very good none the less. |

I'd rather stick pins in my eyes than watch BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN was the quote of the year a couple of years back, as I recall.
Just remind me, is this film where you find out they are all dead at the end and it's only the little kid who can see them, or they can see him? And can you imagine the outcry if a lobby card like that PETER PAN (above) was put in a set today? |

Wonder if people will wake up and start realizing an opioid is an opioid -- doesn't matter if you get it from a doctor or a dealer.

Will someone please fucking watch Synecdoche, New York?
I am going to have to offer a Paypal reward, like I did for Anthony for Built To Spill.

It's on my fucking list, awright? And it's not even something our one local fleapit is going to even to ever put on even, so we have to wait for DVD for stuff like this here at Soldiers Point. At least the theatrical window is getting shorter and shorter here. I mean, have you seen TWILIGHT SAMURAI yet? And ta think I got through all of Season One of LOST for you.... and all this reminds me I haven't watched BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN yet.

I spoke to someone who had seen Syndoche, he described his experience of it as pleasurable enough, but painful; sounds a bit like the voiding of a mighty turd.
Of course Phil is bang on the money with Twilight Samurai, The Hidden Blade by the same director is pretty good too. I'm going through a season of Ingmar Bergmann films with my ten year old swedish nephew. I love irony; my nephew from Sweden comes to England to be introduced to the greatest swedish director of all time when he goes back home his relations they are going to be dumbstruck, whenb hetells them he has been watching Bergmann films. After each film has been watched he says put the next one (fascinating to watch and talk to such a young person about such a complex and difficult film maker) - He also wants to watch Freaks and Mellie's Trip to the Moon before he returns to Gotheburg.. Simn
I have decided to live forever or die in the attempt.
