A little background first: Many people know me as the Godzilla guy, but anyone who really knows me, knows that my favorite daikaiju film is Rodan and that I pursue material from that film with a vengeance. Rodan was the first color monster film from
Toho studios and one of the best efforts from SPFX guru Eiji Tsuburaya. And while many collectors have seen the image of the regular Japanese one-sheet (B2)
from this film, and a much smaller number have seen the rarer b-style one-sheet, tatekan, or beautiful speed poster, almost no one has seen this particular
piece. This C style one-sheet (Chihoban) has Never been pictured in any of the major books/guides on the Toho Monster
posters and is virtually unknown even in Japanese collecting circles. I was really super pleased to be able to add this piece to my collection.

It's always an added thrill to get something really obscure, for a collector with an already great collection.
For those who don't have it, Sean's great book on Godzilla collectibles, which contains a very large section of just the posters (which really deserves its own re-publication), is really worth tracking down. Phil |

Hey Sean, nice one! Anyone know how I can get a copy of that book? I regularly check out the Toho poster site ( http://www.fjmovie.com/tposter/index-e.htm ), but it has not been updated in years. i thought it was complete.
Obviously it is not.

"Respect The Professor!!!" - Peanut Dave's disapproval rating is only very slightly worse than God's. Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Wim, Shimomura has a nice site, but I know I haven't given him any more images in several years and am not really sure he's interested in updating any longer. As for the book, it used to be that Amazon had the best price but it looks like now it's probably easiest to order straight from the publisher. (and Chihoban is a standard B2 size poster.)

I'll start off this fine month with a few newly acquired Japanese posters.
Firstly, a wonderful trio from our own Nipponophile, Armin. From 1973, a great movie about high school sports. Sadly, Cheryl Rainbeaux Smith is not in this one. But still, it's worth watching for sure.
One of my favourite designs for certain is this poster for Sweden's I Am Curious:Yellow. I also have the tatekan which is similarly impressive, in my opinion.
And lastly, yet far from leastly, this awesome poster for my personal, sentimental favourite in the 'Ilsa' series, Greta:The Wicked Warden, which combines everything fantastical about an Ilsa film with the devilishly entertaining women in prison genre. Heaven!
And from a diffeent seller comes this poster which was advertised under the tile 'Bitch', I think. Regardless of the film's title, I was attracted by the awesome image of this tough as nails chick. All my J.D. fantasies coming true. I love it!
Oh, and I have to do an edit to add this one as well... forgot. A B1 (I'd never heard of this size before but it's edging very close to a standard US one sheet size) poster and printed on a heavier paper stock. Also, it's in French so does anyone know what the story would be behind this poster? It came from a Japanese seller. Anyway, In The Realm of the Senses, which I was lucky enough to see on the big screen recently at Cinematheque Ontario. Very cool film and I thought this was a nice poster and I was interested in getting something from the film.

Nice, but not a clue.
I have a B2, noticed Bruce has auctioned a couple of those lately. Think your version better with the imagery reversed and the illustration big. He sold something almost identical to yours last year, think this was a B1.

tintronic wrote: Tint, IN THE REALM OF THE SENSES was a Japanese / French coproduction. I read a few times that Oshima smuggled the negatives out of Japan to edit the movie in France because he was worried that the Japanese censors might shut him down. Not sure this is true but the movie was only available in an edited version in Japan for a long time (I think the uncut version is on DVD there now). (I think the uncut version is on DVD there now) Might not be the best choice of words for that particular movie.
