I have seen and enjoyed Prime Cut as well. I'm just not a huge fan of Hackman and he has lots of credits. Prime Cut is excellent. He definitely has great
films and I will search for Night Moves on Simon's (and Phil's!) recommendation. Thanks!

Argh. I ended up missing the premier of V because of work. But it sounds like I wasn't missing much. That's
really bad if the characters are unlikable. As hokey as the original 80's version is now, the characters were engaging and interesting. Maybe the next
three episodes will improve. I'd read that the producers wanted to show the series in "pods" every few months. I don't know how well
that's going to go over, because they risk losing the audience in the interval.

splatjack wrote: I enjoyed it a good bit myself, although I would stop just short of hilarious other than when Ewan McGregor delivers one of the best lines of the year. It reminded me of, but is not quite in the same company with, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind - a tall-tale told with aplomb. Disney's A Christmas Carol - The IMAX 3-D demo reel of choice until Avatar hits. Visually, it impresses and disturbs on a number of levels, but the film plays out like an amusement park fun-house where each ghost has it's own action sequence, robbing the story of any potential investment. You end up not giving a shit about Tiny Tim, which should never happen in a classical rendition. Jim Carrey did a solid job, so I will lay the blame squarely with Zemeckis. Making ACC too scary for young kids is one thing, but including blatantly silly homages to Back to the Future is another.
I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and
was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any
such slander at any time in the future.

Hud ( Martin Ritt)
Finally got round to seeing this, an absolute stormer it's obvious this is something special from the off with the exquisite desert camera shots from the master James Wong Howe (Oscar winner). We then quickly move on to the four main characters who revel in the heady storyline of a rancher and his son's bitter tacit feud, while the nephew and the housemaid; watch, admire, loathe and despair - incapable of stopping the inevitable meltdown. Excellent metaphorical use of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease within the ranch to enhance the claustrophobic destructiveness of the father's and son's relationship that can only end in disaster. If you haven't you must, all four main characters should of got Oscars for this not just two. Simon

HUD is a really good one. Probably my favorite Paul Newman movie (tied with LONG HOT SUMMER). Most memorable line:
Minister: He's in a better place now. Lonnie: I don't think so...unless dirt is a better place than air.

I finally saw that ferkakte Paranormal Activity. I can sum it up in one sentence: overhyped bore that cannot hold a candle to The Blair Witch Project, the
movie it is frequently compared to.

I re-watched The Luck of Ginger Coffey last night. Cool slice of 60s Canadiana with great performances from Robert Shaw and Mary Ure and the wintry city of
Montreal.

A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH for the *th time, this time with a videobeam. Watching AMOLAD will never tire. Every time I see it I'm amazed how a commission
for a propaganda movie became this masterpiece. Sheer genius.

This was before it was so obvious that those events didn't really happen haha... Pure GENIUS in marketing and producing that movie.

I saw Blair Witch in the theatre on the same night I saw The Sixth Sense. It was opening Friday night for Sixth Sense and the second Friday in wide release for
Blair Witch. Talk about theatres packed with scared people.

Pierrot le Fou (Godard)
I think..... I like this one the best of all Godard's films, beautiful to look at and to listen too (dialogue and music); it is surely a case of, if you attempt to over-analyse what is actually happening in this film it may leave you in a bit of a quandary. On the other hand viewed as a piece of moving art that mirrors the current affairs of its time with it's glorious colour and precise camera work (Raoul Coultard) you'd do well to name a film that does it better - a stand out achievement for its director and a landmark of cinema and that's no over statement; it remains one of the most bewildering stories ever brought to the screen - peel the layers off this one! Hell! I reckon even Archie would give this the Gold Standard stamp of approval. Simon
