Yes, Dave - best poster I have seen on the film. I'm handling for client, so alas will not be staying here for long.

(I've posted this earlier on MPF)
I spent last weekend in Madrid.I've managed to pick a few Spanish onesheets from the sixties, early seventies in this great little memorabilia store where at least four to five men were sitting at the counter or should I say bar, smoking cigarettes and looking over Spanish handbills, DVD-covers and stacks of stills. I rummaged downstairs in the cellar between the onesheets, lobbies and programs. They've some pretty good artists over there as well, terrific painters of human character. I especially love the Dulcinea, a great portrait by Jano of Millie Perkins against an olive green background with symbolic references to Don Quichote.
Also very nice is Rock Hudson in Seconds by Mac and Clark Gable looks good as well in King and Four Queens, depicted by Esa.
I think I like Jano the best, who did a lot of cartoon and comic stuff next to poster design. Look at the steely blue eyes of Paul Newman in Sweet Bird Of Youth.

You guys heard of an artist named Montalban....he did the Spain "Big Boss" 1sh , I'd love to have his autograph (if he's still alive !)

I'm not sure if he's alive. The funny thing is that the Swet Bird of Youth by Jano is from the 1971 release, this one is the first release by
Montalban, I picked up on an earlier trip 3 years ago.

Some recently acquired "Noirish" daybills for me:
1950 "Borderline"
Bogie in "The Enforcer" 1960s re-release. I know the colours are pretty simple but I really like the artwork on this daybill (even if it
doesn't look a thing like Bogart!!)

Been taking a minor break from collecting, but I got a few new ones recently.
Danish poster for ILSA, THE TIGRESS OF SIBIRIA. This was unused. There is an alternative version in full color, but that one has a white background. I like this one better.
Danish poster for Melville's LE SAMOURAĆ. The Danish title means "Expert in killing". I love the film and the poster is quite rare. Not the best poster for the film, but I like the use of color. |

Two more. These haven't arrived yet, according to UPS they should be here tomorrow. Got an email from Julian Iglesias (known as Fantomas38000 on eBay and
his shop Groucho y yo) that he had a stack of new posters up for auction. I found a couple of nice Italians I have been loooking for, the one for a very, very
long time.
First up is the Italian duo-foglio (100x140) for L'AMANTE DEL VAMPIRO (a.k.a. THE VAMPIRE AND THE BALLERINA by Renato Polselli, 1960). Not only is the poster apparently quite rare, but the film is even more hard to get to see, unless you speak Italian. In fact your only chance for the time being is the bootleggers who might have a copy from when it was shown on TV. I watched a terrible copy some time ago and really liked it. It's kind of an important film since it's the first real film about vampires from Italy (Riccardo Freda' I VAMPIRI and the comedy TEMPI DURI PER I VAMPIRI don't count). The poster has some tears, some yellowing and is a bit wavery from humidity. I hope this is something a restoration and linen backing can take care of? I have only seen the poster once before. There's a seller on ebay.it who currently has one for sale in the same condition for 400 Euro.
Next up is the gigantic quattro-foglio (140x200cm) for Mario Bava's masterpiece LA FRUSTA E IL CORPO (a.k.a. The Whip and the Body). I think I have mentioned before on this board that I was on the look out for one. I have wanted it ever since I saw a partial of it hanging behind some guy in a photo on Tim Lucas' blog about his Mario Bava book. I always figured it would be terribly expensive, since posters of popular Italian horror titles tend to go high, and Mario Bava has had a lot attention the last few years with the release of two DVD sets and the excellent book by Tim Lucas. I finally found one for sale in good condition at an Italian dealer some months ago. He wanted 350 Euro for it which was much more than I usually pay for a poster, but still only about half of what I had expected to pay for that particular one. Unfortunately it turned it he had sold it to somebody else when I finally got an email back from him (he still has it up for sale, though, so I don't know about that). Then back in July I found it at another wellknown Italian shop. I even managed to get a price (which was considerably less than the one I got from the previous store). But since the beginning of August I have been waiting to get a total price including shipping to Denmark. I know small Italian shops often close for holidays in that month and I also believe they had a change of management and are moving, but come on... TWO MONTHS for an email! I jumped at the one for sale by Fantomas38000 immediately. Again, it could be in better condition. There are a few tears, but mostly I am concerned about the yellowing which I hope can be taken care of. And I don't even want to begin to think about how much it will be for having it framed. But then again, I got it for only a fraction of what I originally thought I would have to pay for this poster, so I can't complain. This is going to get the full treatment and I can't wait to get it up on a wall. I just have to figure out where and how to tell the girlfriend that some of her pictures need to go |

Very nice pieces Jens Erik, especially those last two! I don't envy you having to deal with such large paper though

True, but large paper can give such a wow factor when hung! It's just a shame that wall space is so often not available for such beauties.
