To browse... http://www.nfb.ca/explore-by/title/ Story... http://www.thestar.com/Entertainment/article/574865 National Film Board puts hundreds of movies online THE CANADIAN PRESS The National Film Board of Canada is putting hundreds of its celebrated works online, allowing film fans around the world to catch its documentaries, animation and fiction works for free. The initiative is just one of the ways the NFB will mark its 70th anniversary this year. Starting today, more than 700 films, clips and trailers begin streaming on the film board's website. The online collection is mostly made up of documentaries but includes classic animated favourites like 1985's The Big Snit and 1988's The Cat Came Back. Acclaimed filmmakers with work on the site include Ryan Larkin, Alanis Obomsawin, Denys Arcand, and Claude Jutra. The NFB says it will add more material each week. I do, I offer a complete and utter retraction. The imputation was totally without basis in fact, and was in no way fair comment, and was motivated purely by malice, and I deeply regret any distress that my comments may have caused you, or your family, and I hereby undertake not to repeat any such slander at any time in the future. This is the most exciting shit to me...you have no idea. Michel Brault. Go there! I have the boxset they put out. Watch all of them but especially 'Pour La Suite Du Monde'. It's magnificent. Then again, I am a ridiculously proud Canadian who freaks out for this stuff so your results may vary. Than you for pointing this out, Archie! You get honourary status! I am going to make that site a second home for some time. Jesus! I can't believe how awesome this is!

I'm looking forward to revisiting some of the canadatarian animated shorts. I remember in my distant childhood there used to be show (musta been on PBS) that showcased animation from around the world and the canadatarian ones were always excellent - on a par with the eastern Europatarian shorts. Trailer Park Boys is just an extension to an already wonderfully creative culture in Canada. Canadian film is fantastic and the NFB is doubly so. It was a superb training ground for Canadian talent and the documentary forms were well above par. A lot of great Canadian films (and, frankly, most are French-Canadian) are stark and melancholic and wonderful, and most of these are documentaries as they could get airplay and Canada was very late to the narrative film world. There is all manner of wonderfullness at that site and my enthusiasm is pure and unending. I'm absolutely overjoyed that this is available. Last night I watched The Agony of Jimmy Quinian about the Montreal skidrow of the mid to late 70s. Incredible! To me, these are time capsules of the country that I am not shy about loving so it's completely amazing and still getting more exciting by the second. Tonight I'm going to try some Arthur Lipsett as I only have his soundtracks on record and have never seen the films. We have experimental filmmakers too, you know.

Some incredibly surreal and dark material too. Shelly
