Dario mentioned using a Canon G5 recently. What do you guys use to snap shots of your posters and do most of you use magnets to hold them up or do you shoot them on flat on the floor. Thanks.

I'm currently (don't laugh) using a Canon Powershot S110 I bought around 2002. It's done a fine job but, obviously, a seven year old Canon
"Elf" has it's limitations. I need far more res and I want to use a remote as Bruce suggested so I don't have to take 5 shots and choose the
one thats least shakey.

I shoot mine laying flat on a black plastic background (to enhance the actual poster) and hold the camera directly over top of the poster. I am only shooting
daybills so they are likely a bit easier to fit into the frame when compared with a one sheet or larger. I don't have the proper set up to use magnets
(i.e. no large piece of clean/safe metal).
I use a Canon 720IS but keep in mind I am not a dealer and a very infrequent seller so I don't really need the super high res shots like Bruce and Heritage etc. The Canon is a great camera. I've taken it to Egypt and Mexico and come back with fantastic photos...and the poster pics ain't too bad either for my purposes

I have a wall mounted tripod and I shoot on a table below it.
the Camera I use is a Canon G-10 (14.7 megapixels) I have the camera interfaced with my laptop via USB cable and I use the mouse to take shots via the Canon remote utility |

Rich, I think I love you. So as soon as the picture is taken with the mouse the picture appears on your laptop. I've never considered a wall-mount tripod.
Sweet. Thanks for the recommendation, CSM
Here's an interesting page: http://pixinfo.com/en/articles/canon shows same subject taken back to back by Canon G1, G2, G3, G5, G6, G7, G9, G10 |

actually, with the canons, you see the photo in the computer viewfinder while you move it around on teh table
I find a table easiest for easily unfolding & refolding posters, or having lobby cards stacked on one side of you, shoot & restack on the other side it saves time as you don't have to clip or slip magnets over the corners to hang them vertically |

Would you believe that I have used a Canon Rebel Xti for the past two years, and I did not know of the capabilities that Rich just described?!
Thanks for the pointer Rich. I found the original disk that came with the camera, and now I'll be able to shoot from the mac! |

you're welcome Holiday..
the remote is the only way to take pics.. you just need to play with the settings & get the right lights we do all the shooting under the regular "Daylight flourescent" bulbs sometimes the color comes out a little pink I've noticed but they are my office lights & give off better light than the yellow of the regular flourescent bulbs |

Just aim your mac at the poster, click the mouse, specify matte or glossy, and Steve Jobs delivers the prints to your door. Sorry, iJoking
The camera, on a tripod, is connected to your computer via USB cable. Your computer screen then becomes your view finder and a mouse click takes the picture using Canon's software. Thanks again, Rich. |

Canon Xsi 12MP, if buying now would get the T1i which is a 15MP. I have a remote shutter release, so hang a poster, step aside, shoot, move to the next. Then I
use a Eye-fi SD card, that automatically uploads to my PC while I am shooting.
I shoot against a white board with magnets. Kind of anal about my pictures, I want them shot dead on so they appear in "book" format when I view them through the database inventory. I am pretty lazy though and only shoot the older purchases or something that has a condition issue I want to see. New stuff, stock photos work just fine!

Thanks, Dale. The Eye-Fi is along the lines of what I'm looking for. I've never understood why current cameras don't include WiFi (?). Canon had a
WiFi camera around 2006 but it was tied to bloated proprietary software; it was awful. I guess there are still no stock WiFi options from Canon. I'm sure
they have sound reason for holding off on WiFi, I just can't figure out why. Eye-Fi looks good in the mean time. Thank you.

Speaking about photo related,
I just had a coffee with a fellow local poster collector and Geek, Behram. Not only does he have a great taste for posters, but he is really a phenomenal photographer as well. Have a look! http://www.luminoso.ca/ Best, dario. |

the inbox.....I find it quite ridiculous actually.
I get an email from yuku that says "goto yuku and check your in box because carson left you a message". why can't yuku just forward the entire message carson left in my yuku inbox to my regular email address? its the same at mpf. just email me directly......its much easier.
